Festival of Arts 2022
These art pieces by photographer Hugh Foster were showcased at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts during the summer of 2022. All these images are available to be collected as prints and framed art for installation.
I think there is always a relationship between life and art. My pictures are not directly autobiographical, but they do derive from my psychological anxieties, fears and desires. In this particular series, they feel very close to home. While I am striving to accomplish goals for my mind and body. I am always rooted in the pitfalls of what it is to be a scrappy, often misguided human. I am conscious of the relationship between figures and the space around them, be it in a safe studio environment or on location in an untamed landscape. The entire body of work comes down to a number of themes but, at its core, it is a search for internal meaning.
I am always interested in the viewer creating her or his own story. In this series of mixed genre pieces, I am not preoccupied with the Interpretation of imagery or a continuity in subject matter, only that it moves the viewer, figuratively, from one place to another.

Valkane Beach, 2022
Pula, Croatia
Shot from above, a lone visitor tours the concrete outcropping that faces southwest from this beautiful shore. Valkane Beach is the most notable beach in Pula, located on the Istrian Peninsula of Croatia. Originally settled during the prehistoric area, Pula has been occupied by the Romans, Venetians, as well as the Allied Forces in World War II.
Agency Zagreb, Croatia 2022 This piece is intended to call attention to choices, in the way we live our lives. Whether we live a full and healthy lifestyle, or not, the option is ours. The pathway is always in front of us. Will we embrace it with open arms or close ourselves off from the beauty of unlimited possibility?
Fire Lane, 2022 Costa Mesa, CA Our subject, ballerina Madison Morris (IG: @onpointeliving) plays amongst street architecture and an encroaching shadow cast from the overhead shade structure. Yellow for caution. Red for stop. How does it feel to park in the fire lane of life?
Haludovo Palace Hotel, 2022 Krk, Croatia Mid-day rooftop capture in the famed, abandoned seaside resort designed by Boris Magaš & built in 1971 by Penthouse Magazine founder, Bob Guccione. One year later, the hotel fell to bankruptcy. It became a home for refugees during the Yugoslov Wars between 1991 and 2001.
Adeline, 2022 Costa Mesa, CA Early evening overhead shot of local famed ballerina, Madison Morris (Instagram: @onpointeliving). This image begs the question of which way does one go, with consideration given to freedom of choice despite any obstacle and/or limitation. Shadow play is a constant theme in the body of my work.
